______ sighed wistfully as she gazed across the room at the angry troll, his back to her. She hadn’t known Karkat for long and honestly they hardly spoke, but there was something about him that made her feel like someone had shaken up a bottle of Faygo in her pump biscuit. It was oddly disconcerting and pleasurable at the same time. She frowned slightly as she watched Terezi laughing at the scowling troll for some reason. She always seemed to be laughing at him and you didn’t think it was very nice. He seemed to put up with it for some reason.

She smiled as she recalled their past conversations, before this terrible shyness enveloped her. She had been like a moirail to him, but the matter had never been discussed. She would listen to his fears and he would in turn listen to hers. He was quite understanding of them, in his own begrudging way. She wished she was still brave enough to talk to him. Sometimes, she still saw those fears shining in his eyes and wanted to sit him on the horn pile to talk about it. But some force kept holding her back.

Karkat’s P.O.V.

Karkat growled under his breath as Terezi walked away, her laugh echoing in his ears still. Why did she have to bother him all the time? Why did everyone have to bother him?! Oh right. Cause he was their leader. He was also leading them to their impending doom and he knew it. He felt his neck prickle oddly. Spinning his chair around, he spotted _____. She was sitting backwards on the chair, her arms folded over the back of the chair. She seemed to be looking in his direction. He flushed angrily from the intense, yet soft stare. Frustrated, he stood up and stomped over to her. She didn’t stop gazing at him. In fact, her stare became much more studious, as if she was trying to take in all his features at once.

You snapped out of your daydream to see the exact troll you were thinking about making his way to you. His shoulders were set forward, his back hunched slightly. His eyes had heavy bags beneath them. Maybe she could ask about that? That would be a good conversation starter. His fists were clenched as always and his footfalls were heavy. Gog, he looked tired. He really didn’t look good. “______ YOUR GLANCE NUGGETS HAVEN’T MOVED FOR AGES. STOP IT!” You blinked again and you felt your face flush a deep (b/c). Smooth _______. “Uh sorry Karkat. I was just thinking…..”He frowned at you, not saying a word. What better time to comment on his health right? “Uh Karkat? I couldn’t help, but notice that you don’t look well. Is something wrong?” His eye twitched slightly with bottled frustration. “IT DOESN’T MATTER! GOG, WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO MAKE A BIG DEAL ABOUT EVERYTHING AND-“ You chose this moment to gently begin papping him. He stared at you speechless as you made comforting sounds and delicate paps. “WHAT ARE YO-“ You shoosed him again, this time pressing a finger on his lips. As calmly as you could, you led the stunned troll to the horn pile and sat down on it. He remained standing, staring at you befuddled. “Sit Karkat.” He did as you asked, with a quiet honk from the pile. “Now,” you began, smiling softly at him “what’s wrong?”

You tried your best not to gape as Karkat finished up his feelings talk. How long had he been keeping all that pent up? No wonder he didn’t look so great! Actually he looked much better now. He stared at you with a slight smile. He looked much more relaxed and carefree. His back was straighter and he held himself confidently. Your eyes widened as you realised what had happened. You, ______ ______, had just become Karkat’s moirail. But that’s not what you wanted! Looking at him now, he looked so happy. It didn’t seem like anyone else would help him. You decided to hold yourself back for Karkat’s sake. His happiness was much more important than yours. Besides, it couldn’t hurt that much……right?
